Working
with children can be one life’s greatest challenges as well as one of life’s
greatest blessings. It is important for every Youth Department in every church
to see young people not necessarily for what they are today but for what they
could be tomorrow. Training young people is a process of time and energy. This
process is often difficult, with many hardships along the way but the potential
product is worth more than all the riches this world could offer. Its reward is
immeasurable.
We at Faith Baptist Church realize the importance and value of the young people
the Lord brings our way. We are not a social club, striving simply to provide
activities for young people. Our main goal as a church is to build lives for the
future. This requires a great deal of dedication, patience, understanding and
love. It is our desire to instill in them a love for the Lord Jesus Christ, a
yearning to know Him more closely, and a willingness to be used by Him now, as
well as in the future.
This does not mean we are against "having fun" and allowing young people to
enjoy life. We have an active Children’s Program for all children under the 6th
grade. On Sundays we have Sunday School classes for all ages and during the
adult morning Worship Service there is a Children’s Church provided. In each of
these services there is a balance of sound, biblical teaching and fun-filled
activities for each age group.
On Wednesday nights we run a program called "King’s Kids", complete with
workbooks, songs, devotion time, and games. There are also rewards that the
children can earn such as club shirts and trophies. Our goal is for the children
to hide God’s Word in their hearts, so memorization of verses is encouraged. The
workers of this Wednesday night program put their heart into everything they do
and it shows in their dedication to the Lord and to the children. We want our
children not only learn Bible stories, but to fall in love with their God, and
gain principles that will guide them throughout their life.
During the summer months of June-August, we pause this program for a spectacular
summer program. We usually take a break from our usual schedule but not from
learning about our God. The summer program consists of many of the same things
as our program throughout the year, just in a more “laid back” way. The children
enjoy more time outdoors involved in competitions and water games, but we still
have our Bible time where they are challenged to live for the Lord. As well in
the summer, we have our VBS. Our Vacation Bible Schools are filled with great
Bible stories, exciting songs, hilarious skits, and games and contests that will
keep every child on the edge of their seat. It is a wonderful time of outreach
into our community and our church family looks forward to it each coming year.
In addition to all this, we have activities for children in 1st-6th grade
sprinkled throughout the year, as well as summer camps for both the 1st- 3rd and
4th- 6th. We believe it is important to reach our children at a young age with
the love of Christ and lay the foundation for the future.
We count it a privilege to work with every young person possible. We do not try
to usurp the authority or role of the parent but simply try to reinforce their
authority through the Word of God. If you have any questions, feel free to
contact us and we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
We hope to see you soon.
