The Contenders

"And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers..."
                                                              - Malachi 4:6 (KJV)

In the culture in which we live, we are well acquainted with “pretenders.”  Constantly we are confronted with people or products that are built up to be one thing, yet in the end they fail to live up to all the hype.  Here at Faith Baptist Church however, it is our desire in the teen department to develop contenders not pretenders.  The Bible tells us in Jude 1:3 that we “should earnestly contend for the faith.”  Christ desire for us is that we would be the “real deal” as Christians and not someone who professes to be something that they are not.  Bottom line is that He desires for other people to see Him in the words and actions of our lives.

With that in mind, we know that none of us have “arrived” spiritually.  We all need to grow in the Lord and take the next step in our Christian lives.  In order to help us do this, the teens meet together every Sunday Morning at 9:45am and every Wednesday at 7:00pm to study the Bible (God’s handbook for how we are to live).  Things such as daily devotions, dealing with peer pressure, choosing right friends, evangelism, and a close walk with the Lord are emphasized.  The teens are also confronted and challenged to live pure lives based on their own Bible convictions, not just simply because “my church, parents, or friends believe this way.”  At our Wednesday night meeting it is a little less formal, and there is usually time saved after the message for a game or an occasional trip to Sonic for ice cream.

As far as activity goes, our teens like to have fun and they know how to have it!  We have been on summer camp trips, winter retreats, mission trips, hayrides, roller-skating adventures, all-nighters, scavenger hunts, destination unknowns, just to name a few.  Everything that is planned or participated in is not only to have fun, but also to share our faith with the lost.

Opportunities to put “feet” to ones faith are available through a variety of avenues.  The teens are encouraged to serve the Lord and use the talents He has given them through helping in Vacation Bible School, going out during one of the church or teen visitation times, or being involved in our music ministry whether it is singing in the choir, small group, or by playing a musical instrument.  Whatever area God leads them to serve in, we try to encourage and support them.  We believe that loving God through serving others is what pleases our Savoir.

We like to think we have something for everyone.  And we would enjoy meeting you.  If you have any questions or simply need more information please call or contact us at (573) 474-4957.

Sincerely.
